The conference was opened and chaired by economist Jim Power and got off to a really fantastic talk on "Heritage 2.0" by Brian Dolan (founder, seandalaiocht.com. Brian covered blogs, social networking, open source/Web 2.0 technologies and services that can be used very effectively without huge cost to share information and improve communication via the web.
Paul Young co-founder Cartoon Saloon and producer of The Secret of Kells talked about the making of the Oscar Nominated animation. I was truly blown away by the dedication, creativity and skill of a 7 year global project that was inspired by our Heritage. (and yes I said "IRISH OSCAR Nominated" ... check out their website and buy the DVD for you and your kids!).
Ciaran McGuinness (Archer Heritage & Planning) the presented the joint project led by Dundalk Museum and including Archer and morsolutions to deliver a project called 'Louth Hidden History' which aims to unlock the wonder of our rich natural heritage and history. The project includes a Content Management System, iPhone App and Mobile Internet interface for other platforms such as Android, Nokia and Blackberry. See a preview off the app below.

I had to leave just after lunch but the afternoon was just as packed with Niall Roycroft, Archaeologist with the NRA, Mary Hawkes-Green (founder, Burren College Art and Design) and Yanky Fachler (historian, business trainer, and author of 6 Officers, 2 Lions, and 750 Mules).
All in all a day that proves yet again that our heritage, history and culture is key to our future.
Well done to Brian and the Museum and I hope the day inspires more innovation and creativity to unlock more of that potential.
