Opera (the Norwegian Web Browser Company) have filed a antitrust suit that claims that Microsoft is stifling competition by distributing Internet Explorer with Windows.
They are hoping that the EU Commission will force Microsoft to comply with industry standards for web browsers and either unbundle Internet Explorer from Windows or include other browsers with it.
The main issue here for users seems to be one of standards compliance ... surely the Internet Browsers should be independently validated as compliant with the appropriate standards before they are released?

MOR Solutions lead the charge to bring OOoCon to Ireland
Well as the 2ns largest exported of software on the planet and with a very strong standards and open source community here in Ireland I felt that Ireland would be a good place to host the international OpenOffice.org conference this year (OOoCon 2008).
It all started when I was thinking of how as a beneficiary and long time user of then OpenOffice productivity suite, "How can I contribute back?".
We are not Java developers so Donations, Testing and Marketing seemed to be the best ways for us to get involved. As a I read more I noticed that there was a 'Call for Locations' issued and thought .. why not Ireland.
Well you can see the full details of the Irish bid below and also follow the result.

I encourage everyone to take part in some way .. download it, donate to it, code it, test it but most of all spread the world ... because this project is one of the best examples of how open source/free software really does promote innovation and choice while keeping interfaces open and standards compliant.
